Is There a Jeremiah in the House?

We celebrate our nation’s independence today! Food, friends and fireworks will be a part of this day for many people. So why ask if there is a Jeremiah in the house? Does he have the lighter or the fireworks?

Actually I was thinking about the prophet Jeremiah. We could use a man like him right about now in our country. It certainly seems as if we have strayed far from our founding beliefs and principles. Like Jeremiah of old we need courageous men and women to call us back to a closer relationship with God.

Jeremiah the Prophet
In the opening chapter of Jeremiah I noticed three truths about him that I believe are true for all of us.

1. His DEVELOPMENT
Jeremiah doubted his ability to make a difference in his day. Surely God would not or could not speak through him. Actually God reminded Jeremiah how He had been totally involved in the development of Jeremiah. The phrases: “I formed you,” “I knew you,” “I consecrated you,” and “I appointed you” all show God’s active involvement in Jeremiah’s development. That’s true for you too. God has planned the details of your life to make you into the person you are to make a difference in the lives of the people you know.

2. His DIRECTION
I believe EACH of us were created on PURPOSE for a PURPOSE. That was true of Jeremiah and it is true for you as well. As we look to the book of Jeremiah we see God saying: “I send you,” “I command you,” “I am with you.” God is more than capable to direct Jeremiah, you and me if we will listen and go where he says to go.

3. His DELIVERANCE
“I am with you to deliver you” are encouraging words. When I hear the word “deliver” I usually default to the idea of being delivered FROM something -  usually hard or difficult times. Certainly God can deliver us FROM such challenges but the word can have another meaning. Instead of being delivered “FROM” something it is also possible to be delivered “TO” something. God can deliver us to the exact place He wants us to be. He has delivered you to your family, to the place you live, to the place you work, to the friends you hang out with. You are delivered “to” these places to make a difference.

We need a generation of Jeremiah’s who understand they have been DEVELOPED by God for a purpose. We need men and women who are eager to follow God’s DIRECTION in their lives to bring a message of hope to those around them. Knowing that we are being developed and directed by God gives us the confidence to also know that He can DELIVER us right where He wants us to be for His Glory and the good of others.

Will you be a Jeremiah for your family and friends? We sure could use one in your neighborhood.

Stop back by on Wednesday for a "feel good" post; you will be glad you did.

Mike
