When Do You Feel Better?
Here is something to think about. "I always feel better after I do what I am supposed to do, not before." I read that earlier this year in the book 20,000 Days and Counting.
Usually we want to "feel" our way into doing, when in reality we can more effectively "Do" our way into feeling. When we do what is right the right feelings follow. If I wait for the feelings to show up before doing the right thing I may be waiting a long, long time.
We have all heard people say "I don't feel like it" as if that is all the reason that is necessary for not doing something. I don't know about you but if I waited until I felt like it on most things I probably would not get much done.
Thankfully when I do the things I do not feel like doing I find that by the time the task is accomplished I feel MUCH better. I need to remember this. You probably do too.
So what task do you have that you don't feel like doing?
1. Clean the bathroom (who ever feels like doing that?)
2. Write that "Thank You" card (I think I will feel like doing that tomorrow)
3. Organizing my finances (THAT makes me feel worse)
4. Calling ________________ (I don't feel like doing that today)
Ok. So you get the idea. We all have things to do that we don't feel like doing. So now that we have admitted that let's just take the next step and DO what needs to be done. I'm pretty sure that when you cross off a couple of those "I don't feel like it" projects from your list that you WILL FEEL much better when they are done.
Go ahead give it a try. You have very little to lose and MUCH to gain by doing what you know you need to do regardless of your feelings at this moment in time.
Doing what needs to be done and feeling better for it,
Mike
