What Path Are You On?

We are all on a path. We are all headed somewhere. The path we are on and the steps we take are leading us to a destination. What is amazing is to see individuals end up in a less than favorable place and then question how they got there. It is really very simple; you are where you are because of the path you are on. So look around and honestly evaluate what path you are on and where it may possibly lead you.

Certainly there are some paths you should DODGE. Just stay away from them – they will lead you where you really do not want to go. A wise father advised his son to “hold back your foot from their paths” (Prov. 1:15). Just don’t go there!

You may be on a good path. You may be headed in the right direction. You still need to be careful as you journey because there may be DELAYS, DISTRACTIONS, or DANGER along the way. Being on a good path doesn’t mean it will be an easy journey. No, it is usually the challenging path that leads to a great destination.

My wife and I have a favorite place we like to go on a day off. It is a strenuous hike to the location but the challenges of the path leads to the beauty and bounty of the destination. If we let the difficulty of the journey discourage us, we would never enjoy the beauty of where the path leads.

So I’m writing today to remind you to choose your path carefully. If you discover you are on the wrong path the good news is that you can begin NOW to get on a better path. Just take a step in a different direction. You may be at a place where it is not real clear which way you should go. So stop and ask for directions. I think there is a reason the Psalmist wrote “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” The truth of God’s Word and counsel of others can be of great help in getting on the path you need to be on right now.

Here’s one last warning from a quote that prompted me to write this article. I was attending a conference in January and Will Mancini said, “We miss our goal not because of obstacles but because of a clear path to a lesser goal.”

I want to keep on the path that will lead me to my goals. I’m sure you are the same. Let’s not get DISTRACTED but let’s stay DILIGENT. Proverbs 4:26 really tells us all we need to know, “Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure.”

Walking on,
Mike

Come back on Wednesday as I will share something that will scare the daylights out of you.
