25th Annual Don Stultz Senior Citizens Day

Greetings to all the new friends I met and to all those who saw me at the 25th Annual Don Stultz Senior Citizens day. Wow, we had a great time and I am so happy to have shared that special event with you.

I am grateful for every performance and speaking opportunity I have and wanted to share some encouraging words with you beyond what I could share at the event.

May you enjoy these "Seven Practices for Seniors" I have written just for you. We will use the words "Seniors" as an outline for these seven practices.

Start your day with words of comfort, hope, and encouragement.

1. I am blessed.
2. I am feeling wonderful today.
3. My mind is strong and my memory is clear.
4. I am grateful to learn new things today.
5. My age refines me it does not define me.
Personally I begin my day reading a couple of chapters in the Bible. I love what Zig Ziglar said. "I read the paper every day and the Bible every day; that way I know what both sides are up to." Reading the Bible is a true source of comfort and encouragement for many! How you start your day has an effect on how the rest of your day goes. I encourage you to begin your day with positive and encouraging words!

Express Thanks.
Being thankful improves your life in numerous ways. Begin or end each day by listing three things you are thankful for. A gratitude journal is a great tool to use. Just get a notebook of some type and write three things you are thankful for each day. In time your attitude of gratitude will begin to make a significant impact on your life and the lives of others. Now matters.
Your past was important but you can't live in the past. What you have been through has prepared you for today. Now is what matters. If you live in the past it will hinder you, if you learn from the past it will help you and others. What you have gone through; what you have experienced has prepared you for NOW, for this moment. Now is your time to share your insights and experiences with another. Now is the time to make a difference in the life of another. Now is the time to call that friend that's been on your mind. Now is the hour to write your loved one. Now is the only time you are sure of so make the most of this moment... right NOW.

Invigorate yourself by moving.
A body in motion tends to stay in motion. Sitting around is NOT good for you. If you are able to get up and walk around be sure you get out and walk. Walking is one of the easiest and most effective exercises you can do. It is also fun to walk with a partner. If you have a cane or a walker don't look at them as a limitation to you but see them as a tool to allow you to stay in motion. Motion impacts emotion. Move more today and see if you don't feel better than you did yesterday.

Original.
You are the only YOU there is so be the best you you can be; everyone else is already taken. Victor Frankl said: "Everyone has his own specific vocation or mission in life ... Therein he cannot be replaced, nor can his life be repeated. Thus, everyone's task is as unique as is his specific opportunity to implement it." You are here. You are reading this right now because you are an ORIGINAL, one of a kind person and the world NEEDS you to be you. We need your gifts and abilities so don't hide them; use them for the good of others!

Respond don't react.
This takes thought but it is well worth the effort. It may be easy to react but it is far better to respond. It seems the older we get the quicker we are to react. We are too quick at times to give someone a piece of our mind! Take a breath before you say what you think. It is so important to be careful with our words because once they are spoken they can only be forgiven not  forgotten. We would all do well to THINK before we speak. Ask yourself if your words are True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary, and Kind. Plan to respond well to some new encounter today.

Serve someone today.
Tony Robbins has written: "To truly feed your spirit, remember this: The secret to living is giving. No matter how busy or broke you may be, you have something to offer others. So many people miss the opportunity to know that their life makes a difference – but it does. Your life matters – and if you align yourself to be congruent with the truth that you’re here not just to “get” but to give, then other people will feel your authenticity and they will open up to you.

When you give back to other people and your community, it reminds you what you’re made for. Focusing on the needs of others has a way of motivating you to do more than you thought possible. You feel the benefits immediately. You become more productive. You find creative solutions to problems. You find strength when you’re exhausted. That’s because life supports that which improves the quality of life. When we contribute to our community, we become part of something that is bigger than ourselves."

So make it a habit to serve someone each day. Both of you will receive a wonderful blessing!
